Title: Hopeless

Author: Colleen Hoover

Series: Hopeless #1

Summary via Goodreads:

Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies…

That’s what seventeen-year-old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of just one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past that she wishes could just stay buried.

Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.

7:29 p.m.

I stand up and look down at the bed, holding my breath in fear of the sounds that are escalating from deep within my throat.

I will not cry.

I will not cry.

*Page 56-57:

I’m stumped. That is a completely contradictory act of kindness. Another side effect of the split personality disorder, maybe? He’s probably a mutation, like The Hulk. Or Jekyll and Hyde. I wonder if Dean is his nice persona and Holder is his scary one. holder is definitely the one I saw at the grocery store earlier. I think I like Dean a lot better.

I have read Ugly Love and Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover and I am currently reading Slammed. Hopeless will the the next book of her’s that I read. She is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I have heard amazing things about this book and I already know I’m going to love it.

What’s on your reading schedule for this weekend? Let me know in the comments.

Thank you for reading and I hope you have a nice weekend.

  1. I’m already amused by the character’s voice in this excerpt. I don’t know if it’s the Elizabeth-Darcy effect, but I’m always intrigued when a relationship between two people starts off on the wrong foot.
