Summary:

Don’t just fight the

system…burn it.

Since discovering she
is a shape-shifting, fire-breathing dragon on her sixteenth birthday
(surprise!), Bryn McKenna’s world has been thrown into chaos. Being a
“crossbreed”—part Red dragon and part Blue—means Bryn will never fit in. Not
with dragon society. Not with the archaic and controlling Directorate. And
definitely not when she has striped hair and a not-so-popular affection for
rule-breaking…

But sneaking around
with her secret boyfriend, Zavien, gets a whole lot harder when he’s betrothed
to someone else. Someone who isn’t a mixed breed and totally forbidden. And for
an added complication, it turns out Bryn’s former archnemesis Jaxon Westgate
isn’t quite the evil asshat she thought. Now she’s caught between her desire to
fit in and a need to set things on fire. Literally.

Because if Bryn can’t
adapt to the status quo…well, then maybe it’s time for her to change it.

My Review:

This series is definitely one of my favorites. This sequel managed to have everything the first book had and more. As far as sequels go, this was one pretty good. I might even go as far as to say, it was sightly better than the first book. Lots of action, some crazy twists, and of course plenty of dragons.

This book picks up not long after book one. Bryn is on her way back to school after the crazy events of book one, that nobody is allowed to talk about. She is still having to watch her back and still dealing with maybe being in constant danger. This sequel also featured more relationship drama and more exciting action.

I really connected with Bryn in the first book and this book made me love her even more. She is just as strong and funny as she was in the first book, even with some added relationship drama. She seemed to stand out more for me in this book, as some of the characters from book one were a little more in the background. It seems like she’s starting to figure things out and she’s starting to find her place in this world she now lives in.

One big surprise in book two is Jaxon. He was a complete jerk in book one and in this one he is still kind of a jerk, but in a really nice way. He and Bryn have a kind of understanding and are now able to tolerate each other. Part of me wants to see what might happen romantically with them, but mostly I just really want them to become best friends.

Zavien was a huge disappointment. I had some suspicions after book one and those pretty much came to be true. He did almost a complete 180 and seemed like a completely different person. He went from sweet and charming to rude and very inconsiderate of Bryn. I had a feeling that the whole betrothed  thing would play a big part in this book.  As much as I liked Zavien in book one, I wanted to strangle him after book two. It will be interesting to see where his story goes from here.

Another character more heavily featured in book two  is Valmont, Bryn’s literal knight in shining armor. I like Valmont as a character but the maybe feelings that were starting to come up between him and Byrn were a little off. I feel like his duty to her would ultimately get in the way of any relationship they might have, if they become anything more than friends. I think they work much better as just friends.

Some crazy dragon things happen in this book and it ends in a bit of a cliffhanger and I am beyond excited for the next book in this series. I am excited about the direction the characters and story are taking. I read this book in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down because I had to know what was going to happen next.

If you have not read book one yet, please go read it and then read this one. This series is entertaining and exciting and I can’t wait to see what crazy things happen next.

~Happy Reading~
