My Rating: 4 Stars
I’ve read two books by Chris Cannon previously and I really enjoyed them, so I was very much looking forward to this book. Every once in a while you just need a sweet, adorable, funny romance and this book was just what I needed at the time. This book was really cute and sweet and I really enjoyed it.
Haley is a great character. I loved her from the beginning. She is crazy smart, kind, and she’s an animal lover. She sees the best in people and she has an awesome best friend. She has trouble in the dating department, thanks to her two older, overprotective brothers, who pretty much scare every potential boy away.
She shows up to school one day and the super cool, super rich, golden boy Bryce is telling people they hooked up. She goes to find him, hopefully before her brothers do, and realizes Bryce was talking about the other Haley. The one with a boyfriend who could very easily rearrange Bryce’s pretty face.
Haley comes up with the brilliant plan to have Bryce pretend to be her boyfriend for a month, as a solution to both of their problems. Haley hopes it will show the other guys at school that she is not undateable and Bryce is just trying to get away from his ex-girlfriend, who is slightly obsessed with him, and the fighter boyfriend of the girl he actually hooked up with. It’s a win-win situation. Except that Haley has had a crush on Bryce for years and soon starts to wonder if this could turn into an actual relationship.
Bryce was an interesting character. He is a rich kid and his father is very strict and it causes him to want to be in control of everything. It kinds of messes up his plans when he has to pretend to be Haley’s boyfriend. She is definitely not the kind of girl her usually goes for. I love the character development his character goes through. I love that even though it started as a fake relationship, he certainly tried his best to be a gentleman and be nice to Haley.
I loved the friendship between Haley and Jane. I love how Haley actually got her included in the blackmail deal. Jane and Nathan, Bryce’s best friend actually hit it off and they were so cute together. I love how Haley was supportive and didn’t become jealous of her. It was a really genuine friendship and it made me happy. Although, all the cupcakes Jane kept making, made me crave them while I was reading. I suggest you have one handy when you read this book.
I loved the banter between Haley and Bryce and I love how their relationship progressed. I love that Haley wasn’t afraid to say what she wanted and what she was thinking. I love that she wasn’t afraid to stick up for herself. The blackmail part of this book was awesome. It was seriously the best part, especially when they were negotiating the terms of their agreement in the school cafeteria.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it. I can’t wait to see what Chris Cannon comes up with next, I’m sure it will be awesome.
